Now that I have a connection to the Internet, what do I do with it? This is a very valid question that is asked hundreds of times on listservs, at conferences, and in school faculty meetings. Common statements range from I don't have time to do one more thing to where do I go for examples? This page is dedicated to examples of how the Web can be used in the classroom.

The world's largest Internet safety, help and education organization

Excellent resource for basic information, parent resources to internet safety, ideas for Acceptable Use Policies, etc.
Educators need to understand that the greatest risk our children face online is being denied access. The Internet is essential to our children's education, future careers and lives. But even the most experienced Internet user doesn't understand how children use the Internet and how to help them have a safer and more enjoyable surfing experience

This site from the BBC has animated movies, lessons, activities, etc. about lots of reading, writing, math, and science subjects.  Use it as a teaching resource, then have students work independently on the activities and games.  VERY USEFUL!

Edutopia Online This site is amazing!  The George Lucas Educational Foundation has compiled this site with research, resources, training films, etc.  http://www.edutopia.org

BrainPop is a subscription site, but well worth the money.
Has hundreds of short animated lessons about everything from poetry to volcanoes that can be used to introduce or review a lesson or unit.  The short QUIZ can easily be put into an online assessment site like QuizLab or QuizStar.
QuizLab is an on-line site to create, store, and assign assessments. Also includes hundreds of pre-made assessments to pick from.  Tests are scored and sent to the teacher's email account overnight.  It's a subscription site, but pretty inexpensive.  If teachers sign up as a group, the price goes down.  Worth the money.
QuizStar is a free on-line site to create, store, and assign assessments.  Like QuizLab, tests are scored and sent to the teacher's email account overnight.  The difference between the two is that QuizLab has a test bank of hundreds of pre-made quizzes to choose from.  QuizStar doesn't.
EducationWorld is the BEST!  Tons of resources for teachers and administrators, and activities that change weekly.  One of my favorites is the scavenger hunt that has a short reading exercise with only one or two website resources. Also includes a higher-order thinking/writing activity.  FREE!
Internet Content for the Classroom MarcoPolo in West Virginia.  Access lesson plans, student activities, reviewed Web sites and other MarcoPolo resources.
Curriculum Pathways® 2005 (also known as SAS inSchool) includes hundreds of resources in math, science, English, social studies, and Spanish to enhance teacher effectiveness and student achievement.  Grades 8 - 12+.
Members to LearningPage.com have access to over 1500 worksheets, activities and lesson plans for preschool through third grade.  Includes reproducible books with activities.  FREE membership.
