    PROMISE Scholarship
    West Virginia PROMISE (Providing Real Opportunities for Maximizing In-State Student Excellence) is a merit-based scholarship program designed to make college affordable to all qualified West Virginia students.  The program provides West Virginia high school graduates meeting certain requirements, a full tuition scholarship to a state college or university in West Virginia or an equivalent amount to an in-state private college.  Click here for more information

    AmeriCorps

    This year more than 320 individuals are serving in West Virginia communities as AmeriCorps members. In return, AmeriCorps members receive an education award of up to $4,725 to help pay for college or pay back student loans. To date, more than 3,100 West Virginia residents have qualified for education awards totaling more than $7,000,000. Two-thirds of AmeriCorps grants are made by the West Virginia Commission for National and Community Service. National nonprofits make other assignments.     Arts Scholarships:

    Doodle 4 Google: A competition for K-12 students to use their artistic talents to think big and redesign Google's homepage logo using the theme:  "If I could travel in time, I'd visit. . ."  Amount:   $5,000 - $30,000.  Visit google.com/doodle4google

    Junior Duck Stamp Contest - U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service: For students K-12.  Submit an original design which will be used to produce the Federal Junior Duck Stamp.  Amount:   $500 - $5,000.  Either phone 703-358-1784 or visit www.fws.gov/juniorduck

    The Beckley Area Foundation provides oversight for scholarship funds established by individuals, firms and organizations wishing to assist students in furthering their education Many of the scholarships managed by BAF are designated for use by students pursuing a particular field of study or attending a specific school.  Additionally, there are scholarships that can be used at any college for graduates of Woodrow Wilson High School, Liberty High School, Independence High School, Summers County High School, Mt. Hope High School, Fayetteville High School, Westside High School, and Wyoming East High School.  Most of these scholarships must be awarded to students from our geographic area or at least preference given to such students.

    College Net Scholarship/Financial Aid Search

    The Kaplan Group

    Little General Stores Scholarship

    This scholarship will be awarded based on a combination of academic achievement and accomplishments and future aspirations.  An independent panel will review the applications of all eligible seniors and choose the recipients.

    The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation Scholarship Program

    TGKVF offers many and various ways for you to acquire a post-secondary education. Some scholarships are designated for graduating seniors of certain schools. Others are awarded for specific fields such as nursing or law. Numerous Foundation Scholarships are based on financial need and not academic achievement, but all applicants must complete a current application and submit it within the indicated time frame in order to be eligible for review.     McKelvey Foundation Entrepreneurial Scholarship

    The McKelvey foundation has 100 scholarships that are worth $40,000 each for high school seniors that own their own business. In 2008 they were able to give out only 52.     The Mission West Virginia Scholarship Program

    Will provide at least five $2,000 scholarships this year to help youth in their senior year of high school or older who experienced a foster care placement for 12 months, OR youth who had a parent incarcerated for 12 months during their childhood. Students meeting this criterion can utilize the funds for any post-secondary education or training program, including two or four year degree programs, vocational training or certificate program. Applications are due March 15. Recipients will be notified by April 15.

    The National Commission for Cooperative Education

    $4.5 Million Available in Co-op Scholarships: The National Commission for Cooperative Education, dedicated to the advancement of high-quality, college-level, cooperative education announces its eighth annual national co-op scholarship program. The program, for high school seniors and community college transfer students, will award 100 $6,000 merit co-op scholarships, most of which are renewable for up to $20,000-$25,000. Learn more.

    Student Athlete Awards Program

    The National Milk Mustache "got milk?" Campaign, in partnership with USA TODAY, announces the Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year (SAMMY) Award Program, which recognizes 25 outstanding high school senior student athletes. Winners receive a $7,500 college scholarship, attend an awards ceremony and have an opportunity to be pictured in a special Milk Mustache ad. More information.

    Underwood-Smith Teacher Scholarship Program

    The Underwood-Smith Teacher Scholarship Program is a state-funded student aid program designed to enable and encourage students to pursue teaching careers at the pre-school, elementary, middle, or secondary school level. Undergraduate and graduate scholarships, not to exceed $5,000 per academic year, are awarded on the basis of academic qualifications and interest in teaching. The objective is for a recipient to obtain a teaching certificate and to commit to the pursuit of a teaching career in West Virginia public schools. Click here for information.

    West Virginia Association of Conservation Districts

    The West Virginia Association of Conservation Districts awards nine $500 college scholarships to graduating high school seniors who plan on majoring in an agriculture related field.

    Students must submit applications to their Conservation District Office by the first Monday in March.  Administrative Officers forward applications to the WVACD Office at 742 Airport Road, Sutton WV 26601 by the third Monday in March.  Recipients will be notified in May.
