Raleigh County Attendance Challenge for the Month of March

Good Afternoon,
Parents, please know that afternoon dismissal for parent pickup students may take a few more minutes than usual. Extra staff will be on hand to help students across the parking lot and to their cars. Please be careful driving on Park Avenue and through the parking lot as there are piles of snow and ice. Please remember there are also students that walk home. We appreciate your help with this. Have a good afternoon.
School Counseling Week is a timely reminder of the quiet, essential work happening in our schools every day.
This week, we recognize and thank our school counselors for the critical role they play in supporting students’ academic growth, social-emotional well-being, and future planning. Counselors are often the first to notice when a student is struggling—and the steady presence that helps them navigate challenges both inside and outside the classroom.
From individual student support and crisis response to academic advising and career guidance, your work matters more than most people realize—and it truly changes lives.
If you see a school counselor today, take a moment to thank them.
Thank you to our school counselors for your compassion, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to students. Our schools are stronger because of you.

Parents of 8th Grade Athletes: please remind students to return their Student Athlete Information Sheet to Mr. Hedinger or Mrs. Houck when we return to school. These are important and will be used when we recognize our 8th grade wrestlers, cheerleaders, and boys' and girls' basketball players at our Future Flying Eagles event!
Parents of 8th grade winter athletes: your child will receive a fact sheet today to complete with your help for our 8th grade night. We are asking that they bring it home this evening and return it to school tomorrow! They can give these forms to Mrs. Houck or Mr. Hedinger. Thank you for your help with this!
Raleigh County Schools is proud to celebrate Beckley Stratton Middle, Park Middle, Independence Middle, Independence High, and Woodrow Wilson High for receiving PBIS Bronze Medals in recognition of their achievement of Bronze status!
We are incredibly proud of the dedication and commitment shown by all administrators, staff, and students who worked hard to earn this honor.
RCS will continue partnering with schools as we strive for 100% PBIS Bronze status across the district by the end of the 2025–2026 school year.
This year, we are also excited to begin rolling out Tier 2 PBIS practices as we move toward Silver status.
Congratulations to everyone involved—your hard work truly makes a difference!
